Welcome back to part 4 of the series covering the reality of the Nephilim in the Bible.
Some of what I would consider some of the burning questions about the Nephilim being hybrid man/angels are:
Can angels still mate with people, and if so, why aren’t their 20’ tall offspring walking around?
Are there people with angel DNA now [if the answer for the previous is no]? And if so, how did they get through the flood?
If people are carrying angel DNA, then are they exempt from salvation, since they are part of the “fallen angel” race…sort of?
If God is overall sovereign, and the One and only Creator, then how did angels make themselves into something that could be attracted to women, and able to produce a child?
If the sons of God are “angels, “ where does that leave the “children of God”?
If satan is a “son of God” then and meets with God in heaven, then doesn’t that contradict the curse God put on him in the Garden of Eden?
Do fallen angels get to do what they want when they want?
To answer the first 4 questions, I would have to refer back to the previous articles in this series. The particular parts that I would refer to are in Part 1 when the clarification is made about the laws of nature and God’s principle of “according to its kind”.
Now, another thing to think about when it comes to these questions about DNA in modern times, is one would have to question how angel DNA made it to Ark? If someone was carrying that DNA, then how were they not a physical giant entering the Ark, and if they weren’t, then how did they produce giant descendants, like Goliath, who is often thought, and taught, to be an offspring of the Nephilim? Now, even to scientists, who have yet to have discovered angel DNA in a human, DNA is complicated, especially when you throw angel blood into the mix…oh, wait, angels, don’t have blood. Better still, let’s continue.
If you believe that the sons of God are angels, and the Nephilim are their hybrid offspring and that Goliath was one of them, then you would most likely go straight to the Book of Job. And the address for that would be Job 1:6 and maybe 7:
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Now, notice that in verse 6 it says the “sons of God” came to present themselves before the Lord. For some reason, in this Chapter, when the children of God present themselves before the Lord, something that has been happening, by God’s command, up to this point, it somehow translates into “angels” presenting themselves before God. Even Cain, in Genesis 4, presented before God.
So then, you might say, for argument’s sake, that in verse 7, God asks Satan, “from” where did you come?”, and Satan’s answer included “earth” meaning he came “from” earth “to” heaven, and thereby placing Satan in heaven with the other angels. The problem with that assertion is that it assumes that Satan can just go to heaven. Not only that, but God knew where Satan had come from when he asked him, as much as he knew where Adam and Eve were when he approached them in the Garden after the fall. And the answer Satan gave the Lord was the same kind of answer that Adam did, which was everything but the answer. Examples of an answer would have been, “We are over here under this bush by the ……” from Adam, and “I was just over at that other town showering the judges with power and renown” from Satan. Maybe not that exactly, but that would’ve been an answer. And by the way, don’t that non-answer answers sound familiar?
Back to Satan’s travel restrictions. Let’s first go back to the Garden of Eden, in Genesis 3:14:
14 So the LORD God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and all beasts of the field, on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. (ESV) (Emphasis Added)
In the verse above, we are being told clearly that Satan, the Serpent of Old, (Rev. 20:2) is confined to the earth, but also that he is more cursed than he was before for his pride, and this again is reiterated in Isaiah 14:12:
12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! (NKJV) (Emphasis Added)
And not to mention, that God is Omnipresent on earth and can be in an earthly conversation, and in this conversation, according to scripture, the only party that can be in heaven is God. Therefore, Satan is having this conversation on Earth.
Another problem with the presupposition that Satan was in heaven during his conversation with Job, outside of undermining the validity of the scripture that says it’s not possible, is that it assumes an authority for Satan that he does not have.
For example, Job 1:8 where God ask Satan if he had considered his servant Job. This not only puts a third earth bound party into the conversation, albeit as a subject matter only, but it also clarifies that Satan does not have free reign on the earth. In other words, there are boundaries for the Serpent of Old and his minions.
Another example of this is in Luke 22:31-32 where Jesus tells Peter that Satan has asked: “to sift him as wheat”. Satan knew that Jesus was about to get arrested, and Peter was likely the highest-value target at that time.
And of course, the rest is history, well, and the present which is the real reason for this final point of why this topic is so dangerous, and not to be played around with. To be blunt, Satan and his legions of minions are not to be toyed with, and that is exactly what we do when we fantasize and fictionalize the aspects and parameters of the unseen world. When you play around with scripture you pet the lion on the head, and while one lives in an alternate spiritual reality they forget that they are petting a lion, but the lion never forgets that it is a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
